Easter weekend was so wonderfully busy: Maunday Thursday potluck and Eucharist service, Good Friday tenebre service, Holy Saturday Easter vigil and baptismal service, Easter Sunday service and evening Easter egg hunt and pot luck. WHEW! I had desired to make all the events and we were able to. I am so thankful. On Good Friday I went through the crucifixion story with Ella. The Roman peg played the role of both Pontius and the soldier/centurion. We also had Mary and "the other women". Then on Sunday after church I had hoped to do a resurrection follow-up, but the Jesus peg was missing, which Ella later found as we were going to bed. Oh well! Maybe next year I'll be better organized (and Ella a bit more interested?).
Even amongst the chaos. "Peacemakers who sow in peace will raise a harvest of righteousness" James 3:18

When Fun Looks Like Holy Week...
An Easter invitation to play: Resurrection Eggs with light. Six eggs filled with symbolic pieces: a coin, a plate and cup, a crown of thorns, a cross made of nails, a cloth, and the final one empty. Ella enjoyed handing the eggs to us one by one to open and then we told her about each piece.
We also painted easter eggs after reading the Ukranian folk story of the Easter Egg.
This week I worked a little on our "Godly Play" peg people. This afternoon I read the story of the last supper and then enacted it for Ella by washing her feet and then showing Jesus have the bread and wine with the disciples.
See what we did for St. Patty's Day.
When The Tomb Is Made Ready
Tonight is the evening of Good Friday. The night on which the Eucharist was instituted. The night the King of kings knelt down to wash the dirty feet of fishermen. The night our Lord shed tears of blood while His disciples slept. The night betrayal was embodied in the intimacy of a kiss. The night the alter is stripped bare. The night we dread before the dawn of our mourning.
